Te Matuku Bay - Waiheke

Te Matuku Bay was once a busy thriving community, but that was 135 years ago. These days its quiet, with a vineyard at its head waters called Passage Rock Wines. Here you can have a pizza from a wood fired oven. Lots of history here... it is known that a ghost is resident at the mystery graveyard. Tematuku Bay has Auckland's highest mangrove forest and a very unusual sand spit lagoon. Many wading sea birds congregate along with the rare dottarel. The sand spit is one of Waiheke's wonders of how it ever formed.
