Stony Batter at Waiheke Island

Stony Batter is 1.3 Km Walk from the gate. The Bottom End or Eastern end of Waiheke offers great walks out over the Batter with views of Coromandel and several gulf Islands. Highly recommended is to explore the network of tunnels with a flash-light. Optional tours are available showing its historic value dating back to 1941. Total length of the tunnels is about half a mile adjoining three gun pits. A fascinating place with a country side peppered with huge rocks. This is an unknown geographical wonderland to how thousands of big rocks ever came.
