Pukeko - Waiheke
Can be seen all over Waiheke but generally in wetter areas in clumps of rushes. Living together, sometimes in groups or pairs. They can't fly so well but surprisingly do fly quite a distance, up to several hundred metres. They can swim well too, actually going under the water. Breeding season is over the summer months having 3 to 6 coloured eggs with dark markings. Females share in communities the incubation.
