Paradise Duck - Waiheke

Always in pairs or family groups on Waiheke Island. They can be quite aggresive towards other birds when their chicks become roamers. The classic broken wing trick is often seen with these birds, leading away from danger their chicks. Both parents seem to work out a system to combat any kind of danger, often separating and returning last minute. The female has the white head. Breeding season is August to October a clutch of 6-12 eggs. Incubation is only by female for 31 days.
