Oystercatcher - Waiheke

Often hopping about the coastal areas of Waiheke on the rocks or mudflats and mangroves. Seen always in pairs. Oystercatchers eat crustaceans on the rocks and love pipi's they can prise open with their long beaks. Breeding season seems all year round, having 2 to 3 large eggs with markings of dark brown. Incubated by both the female and male for 27 to 28 days.
